What is your passion project? Why did you start it?
AMA is my biggest passion project! It was born out of the necessity to create something that is personal and crafted with love and care. After working in the fashion industry for over a decade, I felt that I needed to go back to the idea that brought me to design to begin with: being able to design special products that are created by hand. Since then, I have traveled to many countries working closely with various artisans and finding out that in many cases they are struggling to make a living through their craft. My goal is to create beautiful handcrafted products through modern aesthetic and traditional techniques that would help support the artisans and therefore would preserve the crafts for future generations.
What has been the most challenging and most rewarding part of building your project?
I come from a design background, so the most challenging part to me is the business logistics. It is all new to me and I am learning more every day.
The most rewarding part is seeing the bond that's formed between the artisans and the products and how proud they are of the beautiful pieces that they create.
What brought you to Brooklyn? How long have you lived here? What Brooklyn neighborhood do you live in?
I moved to Brooklyn about 4 and a half years ago, after living in Manhattan for over 10 years. I like to say that “Brooklyn found me". I was looking for an apartment and found my perfect home in Bedstuy. I love the neighborhood and couldn’t be happier living here!
Describe your style in 3 words?
Independent, feminine, effortless
What is the one fashion accessory you cannot live without?
We love to travel and hope you do too. Where was your last trip and where is your next one?
I live to travel! My last trip was to India to work with a group of hand-knitters there and help improve their skills. My next trip will be a vacation to Jamaica! Simply can not wait!
If you didn’t live in Brooklyn, where would you want to live?
I have always loved Florence. Every time I visit, I feel at home.
